 bought the buffet

Yes, I did buy a new Buffet R13 and and am carefully nursing the new baby. Here is my advice/observations-
1. Try as many as you can, preferably side by side. I could not believe the differences among individual instruments. Also, an in-store tech was very helpful in doing on the spot key and cork adjustments. This would never have happened if I ordered an instrument on line. (though, of course, an instrument can be mailed back and forth for adjustments).
2. The retailer I bought from gave me a 2 year "crack warrantee"-- instrument will be replaced if it cracks (of course I paid extra for this).
3. The "big bucks" instrument is not necessarily better--- I liked nickel keys better (as it turns out, cheaper than silver) and the Prestige did not impress me at all, in fact, I much preferred the R13s tone, action and playability. Thanks!

Congratulations!
I tried a Buffet R13, and it didn't really speak to me the way the Yahama Allegro did...it's all about personal preference. Of course the owner of the store was helping me, and he wasn't telling me what instrument was what, so when I picked one of the cheaper horns, my parents were greatly relieved :)

Two other thoughts----
1. I purchased the Buffet at Weiner's in Mineola, NY--- the price was excellent and the service/advice great!
2. GBK--my teacher, friend, and adviser gave me patient and invaluable advice. It is no news to the readers of this BB that he is a true gentleman and an extraordinary clarinetist! Thankyou GBK!

Why would you like the nickel keys better?

Also- I think that the Prestige you tried must've been not as good quality as your R13 ( as all clarinets under the same model name differ, some greatly) because the Prestige is supposed to be the same instrument with a few upgrades, but basically the same bore design etc.
It actually depends on which Prestige you tried....
Was it an R13 Prestige or an RC Prestige, because you just might not like the RC, and the R13 Prestige might be more suitable.

I am slightly confused about these preferences......
