Totally. It will give you a very rich playing experience through HS. You may also want to continue in college just for fun (most universities have concert bands for the non-majors). If you get a good instrument and take care of it, you can sell it at any point you decide to leave the art and get a lot of your money back out of it.

If you can afford it, go for it. I'm in college, not a music major myself, and I have a blast in UNC's concert band. I bought my Yahama Allegro my sophomore year (and I wish I could let you play it, you would never want to buy a Buffet), and I primarily played contralto clarinet in band.

Hey. I am also a freshman in high school and don't plan to have a musical career after high school. Recently, I did buy a buffet, and I believe it is completely worth the money! It has made my playing so much better with a great quality sound. I am almost certain that it will be worth the money for you too.

good luck :)

Just something to consider. If you plan on playing in a high school marching band or outdoor concerts where the temperatures may fluctuate a lot, you'll want to keep your (I assume) plastic horn as a backup to use in those situations.

The experience of playing the Buffet may persuade you to continue your music studies. :0)

Sure it's worth it. You really can't go wrong with something like this. If you're TRULY done with it after high school, it makes an excellent gift for someone you know. That's how I got my current clarinet. And don't count it out yet. I took two years off after high school and came back with a much stronger passion for playing. One of those "you don't miss it till it's gone" situations. Go for it.

Yeah, I agree with "you don't miss it until it's gone". I quit band my senior year of HS, and I joined in college faster than you can say embouchure...but I had to quit again due to medical problems. [frown]
