Just been thinking about CD's that are absent from my collection.
What five clarinet cd's would you not be with out?
Thanks,
Rob

Desert island type lists are always problematic in many respects but, of commercially issued recordings in no particular order (vinyl, CD, etc):
Mozart Concerto - Robert Marcellus
Schubert Octet - Robert Marcellus
Finzi Concerto - Michael Collins
Brahms Quintet - Karl Leister (1965 rec.) or Yona Ettlinger
Copland Concerto - Benny Goodman (2nd Columbia issue. with Copland cond.)
I suppose also that the inherent strength of the composition highly influences my selections.

At first, CPW, I read that as "Concertino vS. Weber."
I wondered who won!

Where can I order these CD's? I tried Amazon and Barnes/Noble, but came up with very few.

De Peyer playing in Messian's " Quartet for the End of Time" Stunning piece. I can only play it now and again because I'm usually pretty emotionally drained after listening to it.

Good choice! Papasov is amazing. Balkanology is a mind blower.

There's rather a nice CD called "Romanza - the art of the clarinet" with movements played by many famous players - all Europeans, mind - de Peyer, Leister and Pay among them.
It will play on a normal stereo system, but also includes computer-readable scores. And - a special bonus - a picture of Otto Steinkopf playing an 18th century contrabassoon; off-topic maybe, but highly amusing, especially seeing how it dwarfs the normal bassoon in the background.
-----------
If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.
To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

Have to put in a vote for Todd Palmer's CD entitled Hermit Songs. In addition to the Bernstein and Copland sonatas and the Gershwin Three Preludes, it contains a transcription of Charles Ives' Sonata for Violin #3 that is quite intriguing. But the real stand-out set is the arrangement of eight of the Hermit Songs by Samuel Barber, originally written for voice and piano. By turns lyrical, dramatic, and whimsical, these brief gems get loving treatment from Palmer and his accompanist Carol Archer. They're easily worth the cost of the album. Just wish the arrangements were available for purchase!
