 Grabner Repair Services

If anyone is wondering where to go for repair or adjustment services, you might check with Walter Grabner, a Sneezy sponsor. He just finished working on my bass clarinet which had multiple adjustment problems, and I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of his work. He is the ultimate professional, as well as fair and pleasant to work with. I also have one of his mouthpieces, which is now my mouthpiece of choice.

Without trying to turn this into a "My Repair Guy is better than your Repair Guy", don't forget MY bass repair guy--Dave Spiegelthal. Admittedly Roger does fine work-- I have his CXBB Mpc and an exotic wood reed case. But Dave suits me just great. Spread the word, keep our repairs at home to "Sneezy folk". There ought to be a listing of "Who-Where" for Sneezy repair folk, busted into Soprano and Harmony or "doublers."

And if you have a good local tech, support him. Help keep local techs in business so you don't have to ship your clarinet out for every minor problem.

I second Tim K's thread. Your local repair tech needs your support if deserving. I agree that sending out an instrument for a pad replacement or tenon cork doesn't make that much sense. Also, the direct communication with the repair technician is invaluable.

That said, I have heard a lot of great things about the repair technicians who support the BB. I won't go into names because I might accidentally leave out one and risk upsetting someone.

Bob A,

Some of us repair instruments other than clarinets, so I don't know if separating by soprano/harmony would be valuable or just confusing. I work on just as many flutes and saxophones as I do clarinets. Every so often I get an oboe or bassoon as well. I'm sure many of the other technicians who "hang out" here work on other instruments as well. It may be something to think about. Then again, most of the information is listed on each website.

jbutler, sorry, you work is so highly recommended that I did not mention you in my post, nor--in my limited experience remember that there were instruments other than a Bass [grin] [grin]--just that my only really necessary work was done by Dave. Your comments are always so complete and objective that I doubt anybody would complain.
