Having acquired my Buffet a couple of summers ago, I happily checked in with my dealer to have a thing or two looked at or adjusted during the warranty period. Which expired last summer.
I've had no problems since, but wonder, should I take my instrument in for a 10,000 mile maintenance, filter and oil change? Does my clarinet need to be "serviced"? If so, how often and what constitutes a complete physical?
(Sorry about the mixed metaphors)

Hi,
The mixed metaphors were very appropriate. When I played a lot of sax, I had my own leaklight that I would run through the instrument every so often. I think checking for leaks is a critical thing to do but not as easy on clarinet as on sax. You can always do the close the keys, plug the end, and blow technique but one thing I find very useful is to have another player use my clarinet for a few scales, etc.
All too often, we have a way of compensating for certain "problems" with our own instruments. What I hope to have my friends say, and they usually do, is "Man, does that play nicely."
Yes, you need to attend to your instrument in a more preventitive way. Not a bad idea to have a tech periodically look over things but you need to know a lot sooner when something is not quite cricket.
