Does anyone here play a wind synth? I've been looking at a WX5 and VL70m setup. Can anyone offer experience or advice?
Thanks very much,
Tom

Tom,
Used WX5 for years. Good piece of hardware for midi control particularly if you aren't that facile with a keyboard or want nuances that pedals, wheels and aftertouch won't give you. Takes a while to master because it is extremely sensitive (just a series of switches and digitizers) and does not tolerate the minor finger inaccuracies you can blow through on the clarinet. A side benefit from mastering the WX is much greater finger precision on the clar.
Factory patches on most synths, even if identified as being for a wind controller, generally need a lot of reprogramming work before they are truly responsive to the controller and start to sound like a musical instrument (even if you are going for Martian saxophone...). There are a lot of resources on the web where people have posted their own programming work in this area if you aren't comfortable lifting the hood on a patch.
Very worthwhile.
Mark
