I was directed to this website to hopefully help me to teach my 12 yr old son how to play the clarinet. I used to play the clarinet in my high shool years. As I am now in my mid 40's that has been a while back. I bought a clarinet for my son, who will be playng in his school band next year, and would like to prepare him or at least introduce him to the clarinet. I can still play but I play by ear and do not remember notes related to fingering. If anyone can help me here I would appreciate it very much. I will be happy to donate money to this site if I can get sufficent feedback. Thanks, Connie

I would strongly urge you to find a teacher for your son. The well-intentioned efforts on your part--though admirable in concept--could lead to habits that could unnecessarily complicate your son's learning and/or inhibit his progress. Chuck

Hi Connie,
Get your son a teacher; that is the only way to go about things.
Also, you may have a mis-understanding about this site. The contributors are working musicians, current/former HS and college band directors, symphony clarinet players, repair technicians, as well as un-seasoned and seasoned players of all kinds. We all give our time and advice for no compensation because we love clarinet playing and enjoy sharing our experiences.
Please base your choice to support the site or not on reasons like that rather than whether you get sufficent feedback. If you start reading the posts on this site, I hope that you would see the immense value the BB offers.
Regards,
HRL

Get your son a privet lesson teacher because that is really the best way for him to learn besides in his school band. then once he starts playing in the school band, let him keep having privt lessons so if he has any trouble with anything in band, he can ask his privet lesson teacher. ~clarinetplayer
