Having just acquired this really nice wood Boehm C Clarinet (LP), which has no markings other than 'G Deschamps' & 'Paris' - has anyone else ever come across this maker.
It's quite a quality clarinet, intonation/pitch fine with standard Bb mouthpieces, amazingly full 'woody' sound for a 'C', but no serial numbers anywhere. Dates possibly early 1900's.
Internet searches reveal several 'Deschamps', mostly clarinettists and a composer, any info gratefully received. Thanks.

The fact that it is actually marked LP (Low Pitch, which is our modern pitch) places it between the mid 1890s to mid 1930s.

Bonjour!
Sounds like a vintage clarinet and if it is low pitch then you are defintely on to an antique...whether or not small bore or large bore would be interesting. i would also like to know if any of the keywork is out of line or it has been refurbished? I would like to know if the barrell and the bell are also corresponding and whether or not there are any tell-tale cracks or repairs. Sounds like your very lucky to have such a decent clarinet....

Dee,
apologies for misleading info, the clarinet is neither marked 'LP' or 'C' - just 'G Deschamps' & 'Paris'
Size and a tuner confirm 'C' and 'LP' (I also have a Besson (Buffet) Albert HP-C, so that was the first thing I checked with this one).
Absence of 'LP' normally means post '30's when LP became standard - but everything, including serial no. is absent except for the makers name.
Alan.

Tinminer,
I sent off an e-mail to someone, on your behalf, and as soon as I hear from the party involved I will either post or e-mail you an answer as per their reply.
Peter

Wrong Deschamps! That Deschamps is listed in the Langwill, G Deschamps is not (and look at the date on the listed Deschamps on that page). However, I'm sure it can't hurt to ask.
