 The classifieds

As I may be buying a new pair of clarinets, I'm thinking about selling my r13. I thought about Ebay, but also thinking about putting it on the classifieds here.
For people who've had anything on the classifieds, how did you fare? Is it a good place to sell, and did it all go smoothly?

Thanks in advance again! =]

How quick do you want to sell your clarinet and how much less than it's worth are you willing to settle for? I view ebay as a 10-day run at selling your product. The Classifieds run up to 60 days and has a narrower range of viewers. There's probably more bargain hunting on ebay than in the Classifieds. I've got a couple of instruments listed in Classifieds now - one thing about it . . . the price is great! Easy to use too.

Morrigan,
I've personally had zero luck selling clarinets on the Classifieds here, and I've tried probably a dozen times. My clarinets have always been refurbished lesser-known brands for which my asking prices have been very low, and possibly because they're not "big 4" brands there has been no interest in them from clarinet.org readers. I have sold most of them via other sites on the Internet, however.

Morrigan, if as it seems you are not going to buy the RC Buffet A clarinet you had your deposit on, could you tell us where it is available so we can consider it?

I've sold a couple of clarinets from the Bboard, so don't count it out. I usually run it on eBay at the same time and have often found that someone that was watching the Bboard classifieds also found my eBay page and that made the decision for them because they knew it would only be around a few days.

Be sure to have some good photos of your instrument to post on the classifieds here, as well as on Ebay if you choose to use Ebay. Have a good description of your instrument and disclose everything about it--any repairs, needed pads, condition of case, etc.

E Bay is something of a crapshoot, so I would certainly be more careful in purchasing an instrument over a mouthpiece or a lesser item. Shipping is also a cost where you can be hit hard depending on what the seller charges.

I also note that you seem to be mentioning getting a new piece. If I remember correctly I think your a LC3 player? In a previous post you mentioned wanted to change your set up....why are you unhappy with your current set up?

Sincerely

DD

You'll need one of two factors working for you to sell your R13 -

A particularly low price (The woodwind shop in Sydney has been dumping NEW R13s for $1295USD)

A proven pedigree to justify why YOURS is better than the average horn.

Bottom line - less than $900 USD is the current ACTUAL selling price.

Better to keep it as a spare than suffer the loss.

Otherwise, how else will you be like those of us with a 'collection'?

******
If you DO sell on eBay (or within these friendly confines)- get paid by Bank Wire draft or certified Bank Draft in full, prior to shipping.

I would suggest you wait until August when Band kids demand peaks.

I think that eBay prices are depressed at this time. I keep waiting for the "market" to improve. I list a few clarinets on my web site hosted right here on woodwind.org, but they do not move quickly. However, I eventually do wind up getting my price. I probably put a couple of instruments on eBay in a few weeks just to see how the market fairs.

Karel - The Clarinet is at Melbourne Brass and Woodwind. It is 23 years old, and when I found this out I decided not to buy it.

D-Dow - I am thinking of another setup because my LC1 has warped and is no longer playing like it used to. I figure it's possible to find something that may improve my do more for my playing than what my LC has done. I'm considering a Greg Smith (Who isn't?!)

Synonymous Botch - It's only 3 years old, and has had a great overhaul, cork and leather pads. I know I'll only get about AU$1,000 for it, but I NEED to sell it so I can put that money down on the loan I'm taking to buy the new pair.
