I just found out today ( I am a little slow) that clarinetfest is coming to my school, the University of Maryland, in 2004!!
The woman who is in charge of organizing the event is getting her doctrate here, as well as teaching at Towson University. So she is helping our band's clarinet section. She asked today what clarinetists we would want to see there.
hehe, maybe you all can give me some suggestions that I could give to her. Who do you want to see in 2004?

If they'll pay my freight, I'll be happy to give a clinic on how not to play.

This IS great! Since I live right next door, I'll actually be able to attend my first and hopefully not last clarinetfest.

Which unfortunate master would *want* AB as a pupil in his master class?

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.
To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

David...All sarcasm and personal opinion aside, (as my posting was meant to be rather tongue-in-cheek), I honestly think AB is a fascinating character whose "success" with the general public is something we could all learn from.
I for one would love to hear him tell his story...GBK

Yes, good news indeed. FINALLY, this is within a reasonable distance (an 80-mile drive from the Eastern Shore of Md.).

GBK....and all others.....
I just "won' an Acker Bilk cd on ebay. Wanted to hear him play something other than "Stranger". I'll let you know! When I was a kid, I thought he was OK, but preferred "Fountain" over the Bilk. Now it's Shaw and Dr. White.
Personally, anyone who plays clarinet is "right on"!!!

I would say that I did my undergraduate work at the University of MD, but that would not be accurate. What I did was spend 4 1/2 years with folks who whacked on each other with swords & clubs. [Last time I applied for a job, I put listed "learned to fight with an ax" as a major skill].
Is the MD Medevil Mercenary Militia still on campus? Does Dr. Fleck still teach Beginning Finnish? Whatever happended to the Jull Hall National Chicken Hall of Fame. Is the Asphalt instute still down by lot 7 and still rumored to be a CIA operation? Still serving ice cream down at the dairy?
So, seems like clarinet fest needs a symposium on metal clarinets. That way the event can go from the sublime to the subnormal
