My daughters Hite "D" mouthpiece came today, and she is in love with it! Says its much better (centered) and easyer to play than her Vandoren M15, and lightyears past her Vandoren M30. She really likes hard reeds, and won't play on anything less than a #4. That's pretty stiff for a 13 year old, I think, but she is very athletic (cross country, lacrosse, etc.) so I guess she has the lung capacity. She has told me that she can play the loudest in band. I can believe that because durring one of her practice sessions she hit a high note that made my ears ring. (this was in a carpeted living room) I think I'll let her play the Silver King outside only. lol

Yeah- As a 14 yr old I usually play 4 1/2 to 5's so I like hard reeds too. Just make sure that her fast, soft staccato doesnt suffer because hard reeds tend to make soft playing and fast tonguing choppy. I had to really work with my hard reeds to be able to sound good in all situations....

Dear Freinds.
The Hite mouthpieces are superb. After much thought to buying something new and trying an awful lot of stuff on the market, I have found the d facing to be the finest of all of the current material. As I work with a symphony here in Canada this search took quite some time. In fact at one point I was about ready to give up until I read how good Mr. Hite's work was on this very site.
What one may note about these facings is they have alot of the design features of the older Chedeville facings. This means a very dark, but lively response with a truly large orchestral resonance. In rehearsal last night I got a number of commments from my colleagues(and they can be tough) on how nice I sound! That alone says something. My professional colleagues don't give out too many compliments.....
Another thing I like is the eveness of the scale throughout the range which I can only compare to an older Chedeville which I own that is warped...
Remember that no one in the audience cares whether you play on a 3 or 4 reed. But they will notice how well you sound. I do alot of adjustment to my reeds...many out of a box are just too hard!

Dear Mark:
Vandoren 3 1/2 V12 or blue box 31/2, or Zonda 31/2 no 4 which I find need alot of adjustment towards the rail tip. If there is too much resistance in the upper tip area then the upper alltissimo notes will not sound.
If you play as much as I do from day to day, in concerts a hard reed wil just plain tire one out.
