It seems perfectly reasonable to do a search on this site before posting a question. However, it seems to me that even if a similar thread has been
posted before, it is not unreasonable to post one's question. I feel this way because a)The one who posted the question will keep returning to the site to see the responses (which will benefit those who advertise on the site) and b)Certain information bears repeating(after all, this is one way we learn). Do others agree?

Not unless you've something to add or you're asking new part to the question that has not been answered. In that case you can post to the old thread and it will pop up again.
If indeed it's answered your question then repeating the question just adds to the noise level that already occurs when you search.

I agree with this notion. There are too many posts popping up that were discussed very recently yet someone will ask the question all over again. The good people here waste their time by posting the links to the previous discussions. It would be great if this could be avoided. It has become a habbit of mine to search before posting. I think everybody should.

I too will try to form that "habit" because I think it is good- and if someone doesnt care about the other people having to re-answer something, then just think about all the waiting you'll have to do vs. getting an answer immediately.
