I just received promo materials from LeBlanc on the new Eddie Daniels Concerto II clarinet. It boasts of ergonomic keywork---improved intonation---what do readers think?

Well- It comes with hand-sculptured keys that are basically more comfortable and it has almost the same improvements on the mechanism they made on the Opus II, so in my opinion, just that would be worth the extra $200. Then , it also comes with Eddie's new mouthpiece thats worth $150, and a new deluxe double case supposedly, so I am personally ordering one to arrive in about 30 days. I was thinking of getting the Concerto , because it is my favorite pro model of the many I have tried, and this is so much of a better deal!

I would equate it with the R13 Vintage model Buffet has put out, and it is for around $300 less.

Before you lay out all this cash...

Check out the Lx or LX300 models that are available as back stock.

The L7 is a killer horn, too.

These are all selling for less than these, which would leave you some pocket money left over for modifications.

Even with the ergonomic improvements, you may still find yourself bending keys to fit YOUR hands.

I have tried the LX- and I really did like it, and with all due respect to Mr. Leblanc, I think the Concerto is a better model.

I agree with Bradley that the LX is not comparable to the Concerto. The LX model, the L7 and LL do not have the smoothness that the Concertos have--even the old Concerto. I haven't tried the Concerto II, but have heard nothing but good things about it. I think Leblanc is trying to get back some of the customers they lost to Buffet a few years ago. I've always thought their intonation was superior. A good Concerto is a real find!

I hope you are saying that Leblanc's intonation is better rather than the other way around. I hate playing R13s because I know that the needle on the tuner is going to move so much. Leblanc artist models I just find are more even and better in tune than Buffets.

I got the promo packet as well and was impressed by its formate, information and neat pics of Eddie and the new clarinets. However, as I already own a supurb set of "original" Concerto clarinets (however currently sitting in my closet while I play Buffets), I filed the advertisment with yesterdays Shopper Stopper in the recycle bin.

Has anyone tried the Concerto II ?

I have looked at the specs and don't see anything special. It looks like the really good thing is the price.

I havent tried it yet- but since it is basically an upgraded Concerto, there isnt anything different with the acoustics. All they did was take the regular Concerto- add a few removable keys like with the Opus II and the keys are now hand finished to be even more comfortable under your fingers ( after you get used to them, because switching from an R13 Vintage to test one had my friend's fingers quite confused) so that you will have more speed and endurance in the long run. Then they also added the extras like the better case and mouthpiece. All in all- its just a Concerto better tweaked to Eddie's specs I guess.....
