Are there any good summer music camps that don't cost a lot and are only 1-2 weeks long?

there is one in boynton beach FL at santalucles high school. band camp. it is 3 weeks long (day camp only) but not on weekends. and you do a performance at the end, you meet a lot of people and new friends but yet not losing your playing techniques in the summer. the website address is www.pbbandcamp.org and email address: campinfo@pbbandcamp.org

This may be "the camp" you are looking for. As a former IMC clarinet instructor, I recommend these summer music sessions as some of the most challenging and finest being offered anywhere in the USA. Please check it out.

Colorado State University does a great music camp every summer. This year Robert W. Smith is our guest conductor. The camp is only a week long and you are housed in the dorms on campus. I highly recommend it!

There is the UGA summer workshop on campus that lasts about a week if I remember correctly. I had alot of fun there when I went eons ago...:)

A good one that I went to for a lot of year is the Marrowstone Music Festival in Washington State. You can go for 1,2,or 3 weeks, and it is comparatively less expensive than other programs with a faculty of their caliber. Alain Desgagne is the clarinet instructor, and was while I attended. He's Associate Principal of the Montreal Symphony, and is an incredible player. They have a great high-profile faculty, with master classes, and orchestra and chamber music performing opportunites. I just looked it up at www.marrowstone.org
One of the best things about it for me was that it wasn't geared solely to one age group. I got the chance to work closely with many great college-level players beginning in my junior high school years. The last time I went I was in college, and I was playing with accomplished musicians at and above my level. It's Washington on the Puget Sound too, which is a beautiful place to be in August when much of the country is sticking to their chairs. I hope this is a help. Good luck.

Hey!
I was wondering where you live? All these camps are great, but you prolly want to go to the one that is closest to home! Well, to put in my share of where you should go, I say WTAMU Band Camp. Last year was my first year and I had the best time of my life! The campus is great and the food is wonderful! It is located in Canyon, Texas, right by Amarillo. The cost is $535, but that is without any scholarships. If you made all state, it is $185, and if you make the jazz band over there and take your own equiptment, then you get a $225 scholarship. Also, you can enter a solo competition and if you get chosen, you play with the honor band and you go to the camp for free. AND, that is not all, if you do end up going this year, you can go next year for free if you end up being an honor camper. The directors choose who gets that. It is usually the first someodd chairs in the honor band, or the symphonic band. This camp made me a much better player. I also made a lot of friends and got closer witht he ones that went. IT IS A BLAST!

Cazadero Performing Arts camp is located in Sonoma County, north of San Francisco. They operate for several weeks over the summer, with different weeks given over to different age groups.
