How very sad *tear*

Here is my story....

Once upond a time, there was a little girl (maybe not so little) that wanted to get a new rubber lined inverted(?) tapered barrel like her private teacher's. She liked ordering from the woodwind and brasswind catelog. After much consideration and study, she decided on the Clark Fobes barrel that WW&BW said was rubber lined.

For Christmas, the little girl recieved the Clark Fobes barrel... for an A clarinet. *gasp* Wrong one, so she sent it back and got one for her Bb. YAY! Then daddy surprised her that he had also ordered her the Buffet Moenig 67mm that she had wanted. Joy!

The Fobes barrel didn't fit... and it wasn't rubber lined! The little girl emailed Fobes and he said that he stopped making them and that WW&BW still hasn't taken that point out of the catelog. Pooey. (2 years later, the barrel was fixed to fit the clarinet.)

So, this little girl wants to know what is a good rubber lined barrel that should be considered for future purchase?

CG, why do you want a rubber lined barrel? I am curious to know what advantage it gives?

Aww! Bradley, WW&BW has done us both wrong! :( I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

Karel: I played the rubber lined, and it seemed to have a warmer, more stable tone. My teacher said it is also easier to tune with a piano when playing solos. It's really cool.

Walter Grabner, one of the Sponsors, makes Delrin barrels. http://www.clarinetxpress.com/#Barrels.

Jim Pyne, another Sponsor, makes all his barrels from composition materials. http://www.pyne-clarion.com/barrels.htm

Either of these should suit your purpose and be much more stable than an all-wood barrel.

I find all of this amazing. I have only ever used, with one exception, the barrell that came with the instrument. The exception was a click barrell that was given to me which I tried and didn't use. My playing career has spanned some 29 years 22 of which have been as a professional in the commercial and jazz fields. I have only swapped mouthpieces a couple of times owing to necessity. Concentrate on playing music not ephemera!
