putting reeds on CDs instead of glass???
Author: ClarenceT

hmm...cds are pretty flat surfaces. and i have tons of AOL cds.

anyone ever think of putting reeds on cds as a flat drying surface or something? or maybe glue sandpaper over a cd and have a cool, lightweight reedworking thingie that fits in yo pocket. u can break them lil' [deleted] into little pieces y'all.

Doubtful. Thin plastic can and often does warp under certain conditions. It might be too iffy to chance.

I have been cutting CDs into squares and making small boxes. I am working my way up to pentigons and hexigons. Then I will make a CD soccer ball.

When I get an AOL cd in the mail, it imediately gets thrown in the trash can.

I consider AOL software a virus. Does anyone know if they have started using TCP/IP like everyone else ?

I can recall a time when I hesitated to throw away a 5 1/4 floppy......single sided.

My boyfriend worked at Wawa for a couple years when he wasn't at school.. He would get the whole display packages of AOL discs and bring them home when a new set would come in to replace the old one (that no one had taken anyway).

We have used them for:

Coasters
Wall Art - smash them up and glue the pieces to the wall, kind of back in the original form, or whatever one likes... if you pop them in the microwave they make some of the most interesting colors, too.
Notepaper - keep them around the desk areas... I don't know how many AOL cds I have stuck to my desk and the wall around it with phone numbers and dates written on them.
Frisbees (we've invented numerous indoor games with them)

I will have to give the reed idea a try. Sounds decent to me. :)

Another option is to mail the AOL cd's here:

You can also microwave CDs and the metal in them cracks and makes pretty designs. You get very jazzy coasters or even christmas tree ornaments!

Obviously, don't put 'em in the microwave for more than a second or 2...and I am not responsible for any damaged microwaves resulting from this message! ;)

Katrina

Keep a small piece of a CD in your wallet. They are small, light, thin, and would make great mirrors during a hair emergency.

Don't you risk picking up some bad vibes on the reed?

I'd hate to think what might happen if you used the wrong CD!

The only hair emergency I've had in twenty years is going witout a hat on the beach...

A small square of 1/4" plate glass (3x5) should be no more than a buck.
(Or two Loonies) with the edges sanded. It will last until you drop it.

CD cases aren't actually flat.

If you're just being cheap, us a hand mirror.
If you're being clever, use the glass table in your coffee room.

Hair emergency?

I swear this is true. I once sat with three young men at a dinner table who had the following conversation, and only the following conversation during the entire time they sat there:

#1. "You know, your hair style is the same as his."

#2. "No, not really. His is a little shorter on the top and I put a swirl in mine at the front, side, right about here."

#3. "Oh, yeah, I can see that. I used to do something similar, but it was more toward the front and it was always blowing around in the wind, so I quit doing it because it made me look too wind-blown."

#1. "Where do you get your hair done?"

#3. "Oh, usually at Chez Louie, I always go to Francois there, he has the right touch for me, but sometimes I go to the unisex at Mayfair and get it done by Maurice, he's pretty good, too."

Etc.

By the time I had heard five munutes of this, I thought, "Boys are more like girls every day, and girls grow mentally and emotionally stronger at the same speed. We seem to be trading places." I won't say what else I thought of those boys or any other "boy" with such tendencies towards vanity.

Hair emergency? Sorry, but this is where I came in.
