Which key system (boehm, albert, etc.) does a Buffet R-13 use? I thought I had this figured out but at my lesson a few days ago my teacher told me I was wrong.

I would just like to say that if your instructor isn't sure what system is on your horn, let alone a Buffet R-13, then you might want to check out some other instructors. Not trying to be rude or insult anyone's intelligence, however one would think that it is quite easy to determine the differences between the different key systems if one is qualified enough to teach. If not, then they would more than likely benefit from some private lessons on their own.
However, my opinion and a quarter MIGHT get you a cup of coffee!

Its not like they have german R13s or pre-boehm R13s so this should be pretty easy to determine........

the key system of the clarinet is always a good thing to know... .
a most embarrassing moment of my life. in 1977 I was a US Marine on leave in Turkey and found myself in a bar were no one spoke english and I certainely don't speak Turkish. A band was playing and they had a clarinet player. after a lot of sign language I convinced him that I could play. I had played in the high school band and thought I was pretty good but I was also very ignorant and my lips were not in shape. I grapped the clarinet with its very hard reed and..... not only was the reed too hard but my i did not have a clue about the fingering. nothing was right at all.
The room roared in laughter but thank god the beer was good and my fingers did not fail me in that regard. To this day I have no idea what I had my hands on but for me it might as been a bag pipe.

Vunderbahr ! Tim. I had a similar experience in beautiful? Downtown London. Leichester [sp?] Square I believe, where a ?Chinese? group was playing semi-oriental music, the reed inst sounded and looked "funny". I talked [with difficulty] to it's player, he handed it to me, it had an oboe/eng horn size reed, conical oboe-type upper joint, clarinet lower joint, I blew on it, a VERY hard reed, made some funny noises [laughter!], and gave it back. If I can find the cassette tape of it I bought, I'll renew those great memories. I did find something like it in Curt Sachs book!! Don
