 clarinet finish

when i bought my r-13 (brand new) this past christmas, it was very shiny and slick. now, that "finish" is worn off except fot the bell. is there a way to get it back? would oiling solve it? do i need to oil it anyway? thanks!!

without looking at your clarinet directly somebody would be hard pressed to suggest that action was required. if you perceive a problem, you might consider contacting the dealer from whom you bought the clarinet, or alternatively, drop Francoise Kloc a note at the B & H IL Distribution Center.

FWIW ... It is the opinion of a number of highly regarded
clarinet repair technicians that excessive oiling can lead to CRACKS. From what I have read, Buffet gives the wood a good soaking in the manufacturing process. On the other hand, there have been some lengthy discussions from others here on the thread who believe that frequent oiling is good.

Trust a repair technician who (if possible) is acquainted with your particular instrument or who has a great deal of Woodwind experience.

I had an overhaul done by Brannen Woodwinds about 2 months ago and Mr. Brannen did not oil my R-13, which at the time was just a little over two years old. I live in Oklahoma where humidity can be a problem, although we certainly don't suffer the extremes of other climates.
