Ben Armato has a companion text for reed balancing using both standard technigues (scraping, sanding, swearing) and the Wiz.
Make sure to take some notes as to where you placed your reed (using the lines on the base) and how far over you set on each rail from the center...
Once you have a method that produces a reliable reed try to stick with it...
I have begun to fiddle around too much and can't separate what works from incantation.
Ben's book is available from <www.muncywinds.com> and others.

Contact Ben Armato directly; I'll bet he sends you an instruction manual gratis. His address & email are in the Accessories link on your right (click on "Accessories", and then click on the picture of the "Reed Wizard").

Just another vote for the Reed Wizard, a simple yet ingenious device that has saved countless reeds (V12's) for me.
