I used to play on a Hite Premeire mouthpiece which was good for students and intermediate players.....it was a nice mouthpiece- So, I'm asuming the professional models would be just as nice.

Just one word regarding the Hite mouthpieces...Great!
I like both the "J" series and the "D" series. The "D" series has a darker tone, the "J" series is a bit more free blowing. I use either the FOF or Rico Grand Concert Select reeds. The Vandorens work well also.
Hite also makes a nice eefer mouthpiece.

I have the "D" and "H" models and like them both. I have more luck using Grand Concert Select than any other reeds on them.

David & Jean Hite have been making great professional mouthpieces for years. His first mouthpieces came out of Ohio, and the "HITE signature" is still quite good. His move to NJ, for a short time, produced an excellent array of mouthpieces. The Hites now live in FL. David took special care in making my own personalized mouthpiece, the "JJM" facing, which I, and many of my students and friends use.
I have been using HITE mouthpieces for over 20 years, and I can only rave about the response, clarity, and intonation of these fine mouthpieces. They are still reasonably priced, as David & Jean have not been affected by the huge jump in current mouthpiece prices.
The Hites are sponsors of this site, and David can be reached at his 800 number at his home in FL, or email him at his site, for more details on his fine mouthpieces.

I will concur with John. I remember my dad taking me to Dave's workshop in Columbus when i was in Jr High school and selecting my first "real" mouthpiece. I played on Hite mouthpieces most of the time since then, although i have used Ralph Morgan's pieces for a bit, and recently my favorite M41 was deposed by a Walter Grabner mouthpiece (which has now been joined by a couple of others...*nice* mouthpieces as well!)
I keep several Premiere mouthpieces around for students who come in with sub-marginal mouthpieces. I also use the Premiere on tenor sax on those rare occasions i play tenor. They are very nice mouthpieces as well.

Based on the fact that they are often recommended on this site I bought one. I'm a beginner. I like mine, but I haven't really played on anything else.

The Hite D is a medium-low resistance mouthpiece with very good harmonics and sound. It has a wide dynamic range with good ring. It is designed for V12 style reeds and reeds that don't have the thicker tip may not work well. I found the V12 3 1/2 reed to work very well. If you like to play 3 1/2 reeds, be sure to include this mouthpiece in your mouthpiece trial.

I use a J&D Hite for my A clarinet and a Fobes San Francisco on my Bb. They sound very different, which I like. I use van dorn 2 1/2 reeds and cannot comfortably get above G in the altissimo. Everywhere else, the mpcs give me good results.

I have used by Hite Premiere for about 5 years. My tone quality improved dramatically with the mouthpice. The Hites are very prompt and helpful in responding to any questions you may have. I highly recommend their product.

I see a few of you have good results with the "D" and "J" series. How about the "M" series?
