How difficult is the Takemitsu concerto? I saw a recording of it by Sabine Meyer in a CD store today (broke so can't buy it unfortunately). I noticed it isn't called simply "Concerto", it had a name, I can't remember it. I love Takemitsu's music and would love to know more about this work, as I've never heard it before.
ANY info would be great, thanks guys!

"Fantasma/Cantos"(1991), which is written for Richard Stolzman.
Takemitsu wrote a few pieces featuring the clarinet such as
"Waves"(cl, hr, tb, perc), "Quatrain II"(cl, vn, vc, p),
"Waterways"(cl, vn, vc, p, 2hp, 2vib), "Herbstlied(arr.)"(cl, stq),
and "Rain Spell"(fl, cl, hp, p, vib).
These works are somewhat related (dedicated to, commissioned,
or first performed by) Stoltzman and/or his ensemble Tashi
(Peter Serkin (p), Ida Kavafian (vn), Fred Sherry (vc) except "Rain Spell".
I haven't listened to S. Meyer's recording of "Fantasma/Cantos"
but there is Stoltzman's CD from RCA
http://www.weinermusic.com/STOLTZMAN/waterways.html
which I found enjoyable to
listen to. Very sensual fluid-like clarinet sound. In my opinion,
this recording should be one of the authoritative recordings of cantos,
considering the fact that Takemitsu had never written much for
clarinet until he met/heard Stoltzman.
FYI, there is "Fantasma/Cantos II" written in 1994 for
tb. and orch..

I fell in love with Takemitsu not specifiaclly for any of his clarinet music, but for his music in general, starting when I first watched "Kwaidan", then "Woman in the Dunes" (a favorite novel, too, in my existentialism period ) and of course, "Ran". I think I've seen most of the movies he'd written music for - but most of the other movies are even more obscure. I'd compare him with Nino Rota in the movie music genre.
