Last August I acquired my very first clarinet on e-Bay, a Leblanc LL, SN 23xxx, made in 1964 and still in great shape. Since then, I have been following e-Bay action on other Leblancs. Right now, there is again an LL being offered. The curious thing is that its SN is only 5 away from mine! It is like looking at a very close sibling. I know that, statistically, it is equally likely to see a specific SN that is that close than a specific SN that differs by, say, 5037. But still, I was amazed when I saw it. Has anyone else had an experience like this? By the way, the high bid on the current LL, with another 5 days to go, is already $50 higher than what I paid for mine. Another reason to feel pretty good about the deal.

I've noticed that one of my R-13's (96xxx - bought in 1967) is within 100 of one that is owned by one of our "regulars", John Gibson.
As the R-13 serial numbers have now passed 500,000 our 2 instruments are definitely "close cousins".
I'm sure John would agree that these were exceptional instruments...GBK

David Sandborn (NYC virtuoso jazz sax recording artist) reportedly has ten Selmer Mark VI alto saxophones within fifteen serial number digets of each other, the "range" he considers that the finest of these instruments were made in. I know that "sax" is off the target subject matter for this forum, but I thought this bit if trivia would nevertheless be of interest to some.
(I must admit--behind closed door--that "sax" is often on my mind, but only when I am not thinking clarinet-clarinet-clarinet.....)
