What is the middle chimney of the lower joint of a Bb clarinet? If it is replaced, does it cause a problem with the instrument?
Thanks!

Clarinet chimneys are the raised open tone holes that have moveable metal rings (Brille keys) around them. They extend out beyond the outer circumference of the body like little chimneys:) The lower joint middle chimney is the second one down from the joint socket, (un)covered by the right middle finger. If a chimney is severely damaged it's usually 'drilled' out and replaced by a 'plug' of matching material, bored and turned to match the replaced one. Done properly, it should cause no problem whatsoever

Every well-equipped repair shop has a supply of ground-up grenadilla, made from cracked joints, which is mixed with epoxy to rebuild broken chimneys.

Ground-up grenadilla and epoxy -- kind of a quasi-Greenline replacement part. Hmmm, bionic clarinets . . . is there a TV series here somewhere?
