I have two mouthpieces currently. A Selmer Crystal facing #1 (most closed). I believe it's the S1 or something like that. And I also have a Gigliotti P facing mouthpiece. My dilemma is that the gigliotti mouthpiece, while I LOVE the tone and sound produced when I hit it just right, well, I can't seem to hit it just right for long. It squeaks and squawks and closes up on me making it dificult to blow. The crystal is a compromise. To me it's much easier to play and sounds nice (not great, but nice). I use Gigliotti Advantage Reeds size 3 1/2, but may switch back to size 3.
How can I go about getting the gigliotti mouthpiece changed around so I can use it more comfortably (with the ease of the crystal), but maintain it's accoustic characteristics which I love?
If it makes any difference, I use a Rovner MKIII lig, but also have a gigliotti lig which I use every now and then (I just don't like fact that it's plastic and gets bent and worn down easily). Thank you.

Rather than cutting your P, which you may regret further on since you can't undo it, try a P34. It might counter some of your problems.

If you like to play on medium strength reeds, then you are well advised as Mark said to go for a more open mpce such as the P34. Even better would be the most open of the Gigliotti mpces or something like the Vandoren B45, which is designed to be used with medium reeds.
Let me state (for the 1000th time) the obvious, which is that most all close lay mpces such as the Gigliotti P are meant to be used with fairly stiff reeds.
IMHO, the number #1 reason why players have problems with close lay mpces such as the Gigliotti P or the Vandoren M series is that they insist on trying to play them with reeds which are too soft for the mpce.
Try some #4s or stronger and let us know what happens.

I had the same problem with my Gigliotti P. I tried harder reeds, but couldn't get the feel that I was looking for without it being a little too stuffy. I eventually went with a Gigliotti 3 that works great!

Tried harder reeds. Harder reeds work well, I think I can work it well if I can use the 3.5 reeds (which I currently use), and possibly open it up a bit. Then I'll work up to a four. I can use the mouthpiece fairly well with a size three, so I figure a size 3.5 should be ok. And if that doesn't work, I'll try to get it oppened up slightly.
As to buying a more open mouthpiece, I simply don't have the money for it. That's the main problem. Thanks for all the responses. I'll post one more about the refacing. Just in case I need to go that route.
