I have just been browsing through Frederick Thurston's "Clarinet Technique". In appendix 111 there is a list of music for clarinet, an awful lot of which I have not heard. Names such as Alma Goatley, G Devreese, Victor Bruns, Geza Frid, P Ladmirault, G Hugon and many others are listed along with pieces they have composed. Has anyone ever heard any recordings of clarinet works by these people? If so, where would I be likely to find it? There must be hundreds of outstanding pieces of music for our instrument that we will never hear simply because the composers of it have been neglected. Seems a shame, really.

The Ladmirault Sonata has been recorded at least twice. The earlier of the two is by Jacques Lancelot on Skarbo DSK 4952 (probably out-of-print), coupled with Ladmirault's sonatas for violin and for cello. More recently, Michael Edwards has recorded it for Crystal Records (#735) coupled with other works for clarinet, including the also obscure and, IMO, also worth hearing, sonata by Bjelinski. This should be available directly from Crystal. Also, Amazon shows two copies in stock.
Best regards,
