 minidisc to CD
Author: clarinetgiggirl

I have just been given a minidisc recorder for my birthday. I have the cables which allow recordings to be transferred to my computer which is good, but does anyone know how or if it is possible to then transfer from the computer onto CD? The instructions are not specific but seem to hint that such a thing is not possible.

If it isn't possible, is there a way of transferring from minidisc to tape? I want to be able to record practice sessions and give copies to friends who do not have a minidisc player.

If the sound's in the computer, you can burn a CD if you have a CD burner. CD burners have actually gotten pretty cheap nowadays.

You can record from minidisc to tape just like recording from CD to tape. All you need is the right connector. The minidisc probably has an 1/8 inch out, and the tape player probably has RCA ins, so you would need an 1/8 inch stereo to dual RCA adapter.

Birch,

Doesn't it depend on what the file type is on the computer? Sorry if this is a dumb question but the instructions that come with my minidisc recorder are really confusing.

CGG,

A lot of the MD recorders that dock to your PC now come with software (or it can be downloaded) for pushing your files to the computer. Most basic CD burning software (which probably came with your burner or the computer) burns MP3s to CD. MD is a different system - ATRAC - but the software converts the files to MP3 or to regular PCM (standard CD format).

Check the website for whatever brand you bought and there are probably help files on how to do it.

Have fun. M.

Download a freeware program called Media Jukebox from the Internet. Connect your MD to your computer using standard 3.5 mm cables. Press record. This will create a CDA file on your computer which can be transferred to a CD using any burner program. Alternatively, if you have $40 and a couple of gigabytes of hard disk space to spare, download a program called Wave Corrector, which is marvellous also for converting old fashioned vinyl albums and cassette tapes to CD. It removes clicks and hiss, adjusts the sound for CD playback and enables you to divide or merge tracks. With this program, your minidisk or other source material is converted into a WAV file. I've used both programs and both produce excellent CDs from minidisk recordings.
