Try doing a search on this topic - it's been discussed here more than just about any other topic - some of the historic postings have been very enlightening.

If you get lots of answers to this posting you will be very confused and will be involved in the eternal clarinet dilema, What reed, mouthpiece, ligature, facings, tone chambers, clarinets, etc, etc, etc, it lasts a lifetime. here is an example. I was playing in a club about five years ago, three other clarinet players came in and in the break we all had a natter at the bar, the band got back on the stand except me, the band leader, a trombone player, looked for me and said into the microphone "can somebody get my clarinet player, he is talking to three others, they are probably talking about reeds and mouthpieces" we where, its a disease!

The best reeds are the ones that work for you at any given time! It varies from day to day! ;-)

MITCHELL LURIE PREMIUMS are the most consistent as far as I'm concerned......I also like ZONDA. DO NOT buy Fred's reeds from honduras. They are NO GOOD.

For most of last year, I played Marca reeds. I had a lot of trouble with Vandoren reeds and Marca reeds worked best with the mouthpieces I was useing at the time. Now I have a new mouthpiece that works great with V12 3 1/2 reeds. I'll experiment with other brands later.

It all depends on your own personal playing style. I personally use Mitchel Luries, but my teacher recommends Vandorens. My suggestion would be to experiment with several different kinds and then use what works the best for you. Good luck!
