Hello everyone. I am looking for a clarinet, I am currently a college music student. I have been reading a lot about how the buffets from the 50s (or vintage) are great clarinets. I know Buffet has these new Vintage R13s. Are they just as good. If you have any information please contact me via e-mail.

A clarinet friend of mine was talking to me about this particular make. He has one and realllllly likes it. He said that he thinks that they are even better than the normal R-13s. I don't know if that helps. Good luck!

I just bought one. I tried it along with others including a very nice prestige. I felt that this particular clarinet held my sound together without feeling stuffy and plays fairly well in tune. Of course this is my individual preference. I am fortunate in that my wife is also a clarinet player so we took turns (over several days)playing the different horns. We then narrowed the search to two instruments, this particular vintage and a very nice prestige. We played each instrument over the course of a couple of days for each other. We both chose the vintage from a listening and playing vantage point. I think you need to play several instruments with the help of someone whom you trust and has a good ears. Get the horns from an establishment that will offer you a two week trial period and that will shop test the horns before they send them. I can tell you that I changed my mind more than once over those several days. Take your time and enjoy getting to play several instruments. Also, keep a tuner on at all times if just to glance at on occasion. I don't know how they compare to the 50's models. I hope you find a great one! Bob Culbreth
