Original Version of Copland Concerto?
Author: Micaela

I was looking through the Arts and Leisure section of the New York Times today and saw an ad for the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with Charles Neidich playing the "original version" of the Copland Clarinet Concerto (next Saturday). It's marked as a New York premiere. I didn't know that there was an original version- what's different?

I would like to go and hear but I'm not very near the city. :( Besides, I have a ticket to a Julliard String Quartet concert that night.

Curious,
Micaela

in 1948, when Goodman received Copland's manuscript of the Concerto, he requested that Copland change 4 specific passages to lessen the technical difficulty.

Each of the 4 passages are described in the article published in The Clarinet Volume 23 Number 1...GBK
