Is the C#4 airy on most clarinets? On my E11 it is very airy, could the cork be too thick not letting the pad open enough? any help will be appreciated....Thanks! -Corey

I had this probelm--- a repair tech adjusted the key so that the pad opens more--it really did help.

Corey -
The hole for C#/G# is an acoustical compromise, smaller and higher than it should be, because otherwise it would overlap with the center joint. On Rossi's one-piece instruments, these notes are much better.
Francois Kloc told me that C#/G# key is almost never set to open far enough. You should be able to play a low E, open the key and get a multiphonic. If you can't, open the key up until you do. Then do the same thing on low F, F#, G and G#.
This made a noticeable improvement on my R-13s.
Best regards.
