You may get similar results with a Scrunchi or similar hair accessory (for less money)... don't use a simple rubber band, they will mar the wood finish.
Flat pads are normal, and if they seal well should not be trouble.
Swelling pads are due to moisture entering the felt middle.
If the clarinet plays, and doesn't add extraneous noise, then you should be good to go onstage.
With a good swabbing and proper storage, you shouldn't need any other goodies in your case.
Funny how nobody seems to complain about their metronome.

It wouldn't hurt to have those lower pads changed out for some better grade pads. It's not expensive to change out two or three of those. You might even ask one of the techs on this board.
That plastic thing is not necessary.

I use a simple hair tie. It's much cheaper and you can change the colors !

A piece of pantyhose works okay if you're shipping the instrument cross country by pony express. But, ordinarily (as Brenda says), it isn't necessary. Once the pads are seated correctly they'll stay that way unless something knocks 'em out of alignment. If everything's adjusted right, all you should have to do is play it

I went to buy some pantyhose (see above) but the lady at Victoria's Secret looked at me really strangely. Next time I'll shave.
Seriously, lets have a contest....What else can those thingies that hold the B key be used for? For that matter, what are they officially called?
How bout B-boppers?
