I've been experiencing something very weird the past few days. It feels like I just can't play anymore. My embouchure just feels like its not in the right place. I've been playing more than I usually do, could it be that I'm just tired? Any suggestions as to why this has happened or what I can do to fix it would be greatly appreciated(audition in a few days).

Could it be you are using too much pressure due to the upcoming audition? Perhaps you should cut back on your playing. Maybe there are some exercises you could do to loosen up. Have you had any dental work lately? Anything different besides all the playing?
Gosh, I am asking more questions than you.
I am sure you are fine. Best of luck,
Jean

Fried Brain Syndrome? Too much work and too little rest?

I don't think it's that I'm stressing too much, it may be mental but it feels physical. It's like I just can't form my regular embouchure anymore. I recorded myself today I get my usual tone but there are just little errors, like blips in technique or an occasional squeak(I used to never squeak for a while). It may be that I'm just tightening up all of a sudden.

This has happened to me more than once.......OVERLOAD! My band director was noticing that I was frustrated with my playing so he told me to take a long rest. Which meant not playing the clarinet for a few of days. I followed his advice and then got back to where I was before. I just needed some rest. So, maybe that is what you need too! Good luck to ya!

Rotate reeds? Scrub up and swab out that mouthpiece? Blow out the upper holes to ensure they're lint/debris free?
It may be staleness to the equipment, not the player. Best wishes on the audition.

Eric,
See the email I posted today (2/13/03) and see if this sounds anything like your problem.
