What do people use to clean the silver Vandoren Optimum Ligature?
Mine is tarnished but the ribbed plate is still silver.
Thanks

Will a silver polishing cloth work?
I got one (Yamaha brand) from my local music store for about 3 bucks. Prettied up my silver-plated keys and socket rings real nice..

line bottom of sauce pan with aluminum foil
fill with water
turn on water. allow water to boil
add vandoren ligature
add lots of baking soda. swirl it around
remove from heat
pour out water
rinse ligature with lukewarm to cold water
put ligature on floor
stomp on it

I got some specially treated soft cloth mittens from a jewelry store that work well for cleaning my clarinet keys as well as my three Optimum ligatures, although they don't tarnish much.

Hand soap (Zest) and water works for me. Have used one for about 18 months with no discoloration. Chuck

My son and I had a competition to see who could get theirs the blackest. He thinks it looks interesting. I let him win. Silver polish, the grey stuff. It's really kinda fun if you wait until its really really tarnished.

I have used Optimum ligatures for a long time and all I've ever used on them is a regular silver polishing cloth, readyly available at music stores, some discount stores, jewelers and most houseware departments in department stores. About Three to eight dollars, depending where you buy it from.

Why does stuff like this attract so many haters? We're all just trying to sound better and Optimums are a tone improvement for many players. chillax. it's not that deep.

A quick dunking in silver dip, rinse with water and dry with a soft cloth.

The item in question now comes in black for people that hate polishing. Costs more.
