 Broadway negotiations start

I urge you all to follow this developing story. The future of live music performance with musical theater is hanging in the balance.

At least a few readers of this board have put kids through college with help from live Broadway

I hope those of you who attend theater will make your voices heard.

It's not just about saving job$ for musicians, it's also about saving an important part of an art form.

Although I live in the Mid-West and have never visited NYC, I signed the petition because "what goes around, comes around." Live music is in jeoprody everywhere there are synthsizers, DJ's and traveling shows with sound track accompaniments being shoved "down our ears." I used to play (and get paid $$) the ice shows, Ringling Bros. Circus, local theater productions and headliner reviews, etc. until all of these venues started using taped accompaniments, thereby eliminating the use of local union musicians. The local theater groups, who used to employ full paid pits for productions of Broadway Musicals, now use keyboard accompaniment or rely on "volunteer musicians" who play for free and comp tickets.

Sign the petition, no matter where you live. Live music is best, and needs your support. Help protect the jobs of Broadway musicians and, quite possibly, save your own.
