Is there any interest out there (I'm in Australia) about the Boosey & Hawkes 1010 model. They've a slightly larger bore like the Selmers (?) which I've heard some jazz players prefer. I have a friemd who would like to sell one, but I'm at a loss as to whom...

I,ve recently gone back to playing 1010s after 8 years on R13s.
My R13 had a crack,so I sent it to be repaired and used my old
1010 in the meantime.I never looked back.The 1010 is a wonderful
instrument and I,m enjoying playing the clarinet now more than ever.
French bore instruments are more fashionable but who cares?
In the UK many professional players still use 1010s and sound wonderful.
As for playing jazz-an individual sound is what you should be aiming for,so the 1010 seems to me to be the perfect choice.
From someone who has rekindled a love affair with BH 1010s I would say buy it.If it doesn,t work out you can allways sell it on.

You'll need a different mouthpiece. The French style bore won't play in tune on a 1010. There have been a number of threads on this.

I have a handful of clarinets I won't part with. My 1980 1010 is definately one if them, although it's been a rocky relationship. It's a tough clarinet to blow. I have four mouthpieces for it (yes, you'll need specially-bored mpcs.; the French ones won't do at all), and not one of them is reed-friendly. The horn itself is resistant and "moody."
But when it "works." Oh my God! My nonclarinetist roommate (the sort of individual whose uninformed opinion is the most valuable and useful!) says my English clarinet plays with a "restraint." An elegant restraint and pure, symphonic sound. Bliss!

Peter Eaton in the U.K. makes 1010 bore mouthpieces as well
as 1010 bore clarinets.These are of a very high quality.Why not check out his website for more info?
