RE: Scott Barrels

Author: Joe Garza  Date:   2003-02-04 01:10 I purchased my Scott barrel and mouthpiece on recommendation from my high school clarinet teacher. That was about 4 years ago almost, now that I'm a junior in college. My professor, Dr. David Pino also recommends these barrels and mouthpieces and plays them all the time. For the price of both, you really can't beat the deal; it's definitely one of those "bang for your buck" deals. Dr. Pino does suggest that I purchase another two sets of each, and I plan to when I can get a set of Buffet Vintage clarinets by the end of summer. As he put it, Scott "isn't going to be around forever" and it would be a worthwhile investment to buy two or three sets for the future. BTW, Pino told me that one barrel/mpc combo once lasted him about nine years, but that there's a noticeable difference if you pick up a new mouthpiece. His suggestion was to get a mouthpiece perhaps every 6-8 years to get the most out of it, especially for everyday playing. I'm figuring on buying about 3 mouthpieces and two barrels.
