I just transferred colleges--from Ithaca College (NY), where an excellent clarinet professor was provided to me, to Monmouth University (NJ), where I have to find myself a clarinet professor. What I'm trying to say is this: HELP! Does anyone know of any great clarinet teachers willing to teach a very dedicated music performance and education major? I know that there are many phenomenal teachers in the city, but I have no idea how to get a hold of them. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions! Thank you in advance.

You may want to contact Mason Gross School of the Arts/ Rutgers U. at the New Brunswick campus. (link into Mason Gross from "Rutgers.edu") That, I suspect, is the closest college with a decent music program to Monmouth. My son was accepted there last spring as a clar major, but choose another school. As I recall they then had 3 clarinet faculty, all were part time adjuncts, I met one of them but could not give you his name, or that of the others now.
Monmouth is a great school, expensive but not all that high as they go, and located right by the beach, but it is not a music school as you've found out.

Go Rutgers!
Mason Gross is a great school, I'm sure you can get someone from there. If you contact me via email I might be able to find you some phone numbers, etc.
Rutgers is Exit 9 on the turnpike. I don't think the drive from Monmouth is too bad, a friend of mine goes there and she commutes here to NB to visit her sister fairly often.

If you are looking in New Jersey, let me put in a plug for Meighan Stoops, who is now teaching in Hunterdon County a couple days a week. Great player, great credentials, and a comfortable ride from Monmouth. Dan Spitzer is in Teaneck if you can make the trip up the 'Pike.
Don't know that much about Monmouth. If they offer a music major, how come they can't fix you up with a teacher?
