There is a used clarinet I am looking at but I cannot identify its brand. It looks in good condition, and looks like its made of wood. Where you would normally see the emblem of the manufacturer is a symbol that looks like a music holder for band instruments (you know, the kind you clip music into for marching bands). Then it says "Kenosha, WI" beneath it.
How can I tell what brand it is, or make a better determination if it's a good instrument.
Mitch
P.S. I played clarinet in band, and know enough about what to look for in a basic good instrument. But that's about it.

Mitch --
The model 7214 Vito brand clarinet, made by the Leblanc company, whose USA headquarters are in Kenosha, Wisconsin, have a stylized lyre with VITO worked into it as their logo. The clarinets are plastic, but the later models have a woodgrain-like finish.
You can find pictures on the Leblanc web site. Click on the Vito clarinets section.

Vito is a good brand of beginner instruments. Just make sure that it is in sound mechanical condition since it is used.

If it's on eBay just email the poster. Personally I don't know how anyone could go wrong with a plastic Vito even if it needs normal repairs.
