 Chat help
Author: jez

Despite being hugely technically challenged, I never had any problem with the old-style chat on Sunday evenings (UK) and enjoyed some very interesting sessions covering wide-ranging topics.
Since the new format started, however, I've not managed to make it work. Either my computer disconnects me or I give up trying to understand what I'm supposed to do.
Is there something I'm missing here? How is it better? What do I need that's different?

Hello to all you 'chatters' I hope to join you again soon.

Make sure your browser has cookies & javascript enables. It won't work without either running.

I thought I was there too, Jez. Around 1:40, PST, I got to the sign in box, typed my name in the sign in spot. Another(?) nice box popped up with my name in it : I then waited a couple of minutes while the nice box stared back at me. I typed 'Hello :)' , then 'send' or something like that. Ron saying 'hello' stared back at me from the box for a few moments. I waited two or three minutes, figured maybe no one else was there and came back home.
I believe cookies are enabled because everything else works on my home computer. I don't know about Javascript. Does one OR the other need to be functioning? Beyond that, I'm quite technically challenged too.
Hope we have better success in future attempts, Jez.
Maybe Mark can offer (don't dare ask for a suggestion :))) rather, a bit of advice.
The 'old' system seemed to be almost self propelled.

If someone else is there you'll see their name in the box.

I was on at the same time as Jez, but evidently he could not read my posts for some reason. It was a tad frustrating. Someone else entered shortly after using the name contra(something) and I couldn't tell if they were seeing my posts either. I did see both of their names in the upper corner where it lists those who were online at the time. I gave up and logged off.

Hmmmmm.

I'll have to look into it. It worked during testing (figures) but there may be some other problems.

The old system used a different kind of system and would cause some of the browsers to go belly-up after a bit or the pages wouldn't refresh.

I'll see what else is out there that works.

I was there once when you were Don, but I couldn't see anything being said.
