First of all, congrats to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on winning the superbowl. I was hoping Oakland would lose since they are one of the Jets' rivals.
Secondly, does anybody know anything about Rossini's Intro, Theme, and Variations? I went to a local Sam Ash today to get some new reeds, and while I was at it I decided to buy some music scores, and it just turned out the be the Rossini. I've took a couple of looks at it and listened to a recording i downloaded.
This is one heck of a difficult piece, one of the most difficult ones i've ever seen.
Finally, can't wait for Marcellus CD to arrive in the mail!!!!

What's the big deal about the Super Bowl? They don't even have a marching band at halftime, so how can it be considered entertaining?

What's the big deal with the SoperBowl? Nothing. It's only the most watched live event every single year. If you want to see a marching band, go to Oklahoma, but this is the big show, and it doesn't need one to promote it.

I love Celine Dion but agree about the band. And, I hear they've come up with a new "syndrome" for men who suffer depression after the football season ends--Post Super Bowl Syndrome. Groan.

To me, the Super Bowl is about as "all-American" as you can get (emphasis on "American" sporting event). I'm probably the only one who noticed but as for the patriotic openers I was none too happy to see a "non-American" sing "God Bless America"; although Ms. Dion was wonderful. And from a musical standpoint, I don't know who penned the Dixie Chicks' acapella arrangement of the National Anthem (maybe THEY did) but their harmonies were so tightly voiced you could barely distinguish the melody! I've seen those gals in concert and each one of them sport a 3-octave+ range; if they had a label/staff arranger write it they didn't come close to doing them justice ... oh well, they got the primo gig and I play in smoky, smelly lounges and show 12-year olds how to suck the spit out of their horns ... <;-D
