Having an interest in trying the LeBlanc Pete Fountain clarinet, I'm faced with the practical problem of how to locate one. An internet search found only music 123, and the gold plated model is not available from them until April 15. The gold plated model is so expensive I doubt many places stock them. How would I be able to try several at a time? Any suggestions?

The PF's are hideously expensive.

The LL's are more readily available for less money, reconditioned.

Hi,

I have noticed several posts by you on finding a clarinet recently. I remember several different ones you were interested in but I wonder which you have played and which you have not.

The Series 9 is a big bore and I really like mine and the Dynamic 2 is great as well (big bore also).

I think you need to try some clarinets and see what you like. That might be your best course of action. You'll then have some comparisons. I can't imagine myself buying a new clarinet without trying it. The ones I own above I got so cheaply that I knew that if I did not like them, I could get my money out of them.

IMHO maybe you should take a chance on a used big bore Selmer or Leblanc. If you don't like it, sell it and keep trying.

Hank

WJK,

I am e-mailing you some information in that regard.

WJK - The big-bore cl I prefer is the Selmer CT, however I have fond memories of a LeB Dyn. H, [my Dyn 2 being [very] slightly lesser bore dia .585"], the H, AFAIK, being the same as the P F. You might read the LeBlanc LL thread above to get a view of some of their many [earlier] models. These BB's are often much cheaper. Don

Own a P.F. and tried all the other ones mentioned. Seriously prefer the Conn 444N. Most dynamic, resonant and fun. Only available used, of course.

I honestly enjoyed the LL better than the Pete Fountain that I owned. The LL was more suitable for more kinds of things and I could get more volume and tonal control from it. I recommend it if you're wanting a good large bore instrument.

I've also heard good things about the Conn, but have never personally tried one.

I just phoned WW/BW shopping for a PF base nickel model and got some additional info on the $3,250 sale price 1612G. The agent said they had 14 silver plated Big Easys and 3 of the gold plated arriving early next week; unfortunately, all 3 goldies were already "sold". He did say you can order them and shipped to you for a 24 day test period and without "officially" committing to a sale. Shipping/return policy on their website states 30 days. Also, you must purchase ONE instrument in full and by credit card "ONLY" before play test shipping. They'll ship up to 3 horns maximum and there is a $5 re-stocking fee on any horn returned. A full refund/re-crediting of your charge card takes up to 2 weeks. v/r Ken
