 It's SO good!
Author: Morrigan

Just listening to some great clarinet recordings tonight, and realised that no matter who's playing, on what setup, and no matter what difference of opinion there is, the clarinet is a truly beautiful and wonderful instrument.
I see people here talk about what is 'right', 'incorrect', who's 'better' than whom, I'm even very guilty of it! But at the end of the day, I love the clarinet, no matter who's playing it!

Anyone else with me here? Let's be more positive about it!

"The clarinet is a truly beautiful and wonderful instrument" I agree completely, I have listened to clarinet players in all styles and set ups and types/makes of clarinet from Jack Brymer to George Lewis.....WONDERFUL, I never tire.

I think you have touched on a significant issue and I agree with your opinions. I too notice occasional "clarinet snobbery" and am always turned off by it, but that's part of human nature I guess.

Those achieving the level of deserving to be recorded are going to sound good, depending on your definition of good. Of course nothing compares to hearing it live! Yes, there's something captivating about having the classical station on and your ear picks up that clarinet among the rest. I'll stop work to listen. What's so sweet, too, is to be able to hear those rich sounds coming from your own instrument during practice, and if you're fortunate enough, during performance when it counts. Ah, that's one of life's small good things, even better than eating fresh cinnamon buns straight out of the oven.

Like the very fine conductor of the University of Wisconsin Wind Ensemble and the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra likes to say, "A pretty sound is an in tune sound."

It isn't so much the instrument as it is the instrumentalist. Any instrument or vocal will sound good if played or sung "good." (Louis Armstrong, anybody??????)

The amzing thing is how differnet everyone approaches this instrument, this is a great thing. Without individuality, life is boring!!!
