how HARD is it to get into TANGLEWOOD?
Author: Lee Dietterich

How hard is it to get admitted into Boston University's summer program at TAnglewood with the boston symphony? I'm applying to their wind ensemble program. I'm also trying for the clarinet workshop (less competitive i heard) just in case i don't get into the wind ensemble.

How hard is it to get into the wind ensemble and teh clarnet workshop? How do they compare to other camps? How does their orchestra compare to the WYSO at interlochen?

i'm so nervous about my audition!

btw, they have a website:
http://www.bu.edu/cfa/music/tanglewood/

if any of you have been there...what was it like? how was the schedule?

My son went to BUTI 5 or 6 years back. Competitive auditions, probably similar to Interlochen Summer Camp (my son went to the Academy for 3 years - the BUTI orchestra was on par with the Interlochen Orchestra, which is pretty good for high school level).

He enjoyed the conductors; they have good ones coming in. It's not really with the Boston Symphony, though they do hold some master classes at BUTI with the BS people.

One of my good friends attended the clarinet workshop last summer, he's a pretty good player ranking around 35 at all-state(tx). He said it was a great experience. I plan on auditioning for both Interlochen and Tanglewood this summer, hoping to get into either of the orchestras. Good luck with your auditions.

It's a wonderful experience. i went to both the workshop and the wind ensemble back in 2000. they're both fairly competitive i say just go into the audition playing your best period! and leave the audition feeling like you had a strong audition and whatever happens happens.

Amen, Keil. Let an old geezer speak. If you have to go into ANYTHING in life worrying about how hard it's going to be--FORGET IT. Just make up your mind to get there, do your best, and be happy with the results.
