Okay, I'll need some ideas to finding a clarinet teacher. I'm a high schooler who lives in Queens, New York (more specifically Fresh Meadows just 3 blocks North of St. Johns University). I took around three years of piano lessons a while ago from a teacher at a nearrby music school and another year with a different teacher. I could try that school and see if they have any clarinet people, although the place is really only specialized with piano teachers.
My parents don't really know of anybody either.
I'm a mostly self taught intermediate student with a couple years of experience and have played in a concert ensemble and in orchestra. I would especially like to get help towards my embechoure, and start tackling some pieces in the classical repertoire (I've already learned parts of the Mozart Concerto and Quintet).
This isn't really desperate. No need to bust any grey hairs over. Not really sure how long I'll take them. Don't need any specific reccomendations (but you can give me them if you'd like), just ideas/tips/advice. Thanks.

If you have time to make it into manhattan, i would check out the prep program at juilliard, manhattan, mannes or the third street music settlement. all will have several qualified teachers and other classes, orchestras, chamber music, etc.

I just finished a semester's worth of lessons at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, and think I got my money's worth out of it (the only lessons I've had, so hard to compare). They have a facility in Flushing, Queens, that I believe offers lessons in most instruments. You can get more info at:

Gosh, growing up in Texas, I was always taught that you could never find good restaurants, night life, baseball and music (or music teachers) in New York. Was I mistaught?∞

terribly misinformed ... and "mistaught"
Many great restaurants here.
GO Yankees!
Nightlife that can get you into trouble like you've always dreamed of,
and music.....
...take a quick look at listings of who and what is playing where in classical, jazz, B'way, rock, pop, and many other styles of music each week.
Music teachers -- yea, we got them here, too. Dime a dozen and quality, too.
And not all of the above are at incredibly unrealistic price either.

Well, baseball aside, I've had several people email me and am considering what to do. But I'm still busy with finals. I have until February 3rd off for Regents week as soon as I finish these exams tommorow and Friday. Then, it should give me some much needed free time.
