Did anyone try Hanson (U.K.) student clarinets?

Hi Zane, I posted an analysis of the HE-3 Hanson clarinet around a month ago. I had to send it back because it had a fairly major defect in the F# trill key. I felt kind of sad that mine was the first to ever be sent back. All in all, I would say that it's a decent student model clarinet. There were no undercut tone holes. It was very free blowing and very impressive looking. Be careful, though. If you order one and don't like it, it will probably cost you around $38 to send it back and if you get your refund through PayPal, you'll lose around $12.00 in fees. So, for me it turned out to be a rather expensive trial period. I also tried out the YCL-250 and it too was defective. However, WW&BW sent me a shipping label so I didn't have to shell out any $$$ to send it back. The YCL-250 has a nice, dark, more focused tone. The quality of YCL-250 craftmanship was impeccable. Unfortunate, quite a few Valentino pads were seated improperly. You may want to try the Amati student clarinet from Graham's music. I understand that he goes through each clarinet with a "fine tooth comb" to make sure that everything is just right before it is sent out. His website URL is www.grahams-music.com. Weiner music also play tests their clarinets, but I don't get the impression that they spend as much time prepping the instrument as Graham does before shipment. Their URL is www.weinermusic.com.

Another vote for Graham Golden http://www.grahams-music.com/Home/index.html and the prep time he spends on his Amatis. Absolutely nothing gets by him, and each instrument is meticulously inspected, adjusted and tested before it is even thought of being shipped.
Probably the reason his customer satisfaction is so high, and his return rate is so low.
He truly takes pride in his work...GBK

Dan, I believe you'll find Hanson claims they never had an instrument returned because someone "didn't like it." I don't think this is quite the same as "it doesn't work."
By the way, there was a thread not long ago about the Hanson £2999 Titanium instrument. What was not mentioned is that instruments of similar design are available in your choice of Rosewood, Blackwood, or Titanium at the same price. Now please let me stand back and avoid being trampled in the mad rush.
