Hi guys. As you know, I'm about to buy an RC Prestige A. I'd just like some more info on Robert Carree, exactly what it is that sents the RC from the R13, etc.
I just can't find much stuff on the net about it!

Dear Morrigan,
Robert Carree is the originator of the R13 tone concept which is really a bore and tone hole configuration. This design came out as a result of the desire to fine a more even and resonat tone with better tuning intervals.
As a result of the excellence of this particular design the Buffet product jumped to promince quickly. What is also noted is the polycylindrical design that Mr. Carree came upon allowed players a winder dynamic range with better control over intonation and tonal color throughout the entire comapss of the range.
this had a benifit on the ease of performaning music, and players could also project far better than much of the current equipment then in use. Players in America especially relied on alot of custom work to bring instruments into pitch, but with the R13 far less modification was and is need in order to sound good.
the RC ;model is something of a hybrid in that the bore work is slightly differnet an yield a different tonal concept. the sound color of the RC tends to be somewhat darker and or softer with less of the edginess that one associates with the R13. I wold also say the response and feel is quite different ...and I would say this is not a negative thing but it allows for delicacy in a very nice way. clarinet players can also affect just as much of their own playing by the mouthpiece choice, we have seen an awful lot on that.
When studying in France I noted:
European players tend to move more towards the sound concept of the RC, which for various reasons I shall attempt to expain. In france and Germany and in various places where the RC is employed some players feel the RC has a warmer deeper sound color with less of the brittleness of the R13. This means the tone idea is more towards a blending sound and -leads towards more of softer focus with less of the hardness in the tone. (The bell is also shaped different from the R13 )
For expample numerous players in French orchestras tend toward this set up because of the feeling that the RC gives a more muted tone quality and adapts well to orchestral playing. As for me I have tested numerous RC's for students and like them very much. Be sure you have a good overhaulon it and things will go much better.
