I have a Bet wood of about that vintage, have about $100 in it not counting my own repairs. It plays fairly well, but not as good as my more modern LeBlancs and 50's Selmer. Don

Value kind of depends on the condition of the instrument and to whom you are trying to sell it to.
Actual modern day value is likely less than $150.
But to a collector, it _could_ be worth slightly more.
If used in a professional setting you would know a lot more about the instrument (tuning, especially). I've seen plenty of old instruments which aren't worth anything, since they are so badly out of tune that they have no modern day function other than something for a beginner. . .
I guess the best thing for you to do would be to have a repair technican look at it, and tell you more about the Bettoney line. . .

The way I look at it - these instruments are bad news for beginners. There's enough problems staying in tune using a <b>good</b> instrument ...

To supplement my above post, the #s are 334G lower joint, 416G UJ, indicating prob. cracked UJ replacement. It says USN [Navy?] on it, likely a "war-timer". As said above, it wouldn't be good for a student, even having the "ears" on the bridge key for damage prevention as we discussed elsewhere, but I'll not make a lamp out of it either, just play it occasionally to bring back memories of the "dark-ages". Mark can give you a run-down on Bettoney, who IMHO was a good, early clar. maker. Don
