It happened sooner than expected. My friend down at Brass and Woodwind Workshop called me yesterday to tell me they had a nice RC Prestige A in, and that I should try it.
This morning, I feel in love.
It was selected as a set about 8 years ago by Phillip Miechel, recently retired principal clarinet of the Melbourne Symphony after 25 years. They were sold to someone else for some reason, and the Bb cracked. Now she is selling the Bb.
It has excellent intonation, and the tone is brilliant. It is free-blowing and a very easy horn to play. Basically, it had all the characteristics I'm looking for. I'm going to have a little work done on it, and hopefully about this time next year I will send the set off to the Brannens. I'm also getting a BAM trekking case!
I put the deposit down on Monday, then take the loan in Feb to pay for it. It's AU$2,200. A far cry from my original idea of buying the brannenized set for about AU$14,000!!!!
I'm really happy about this. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome!

Good on you, mate!
May you like it and live to play it, at least, until you are 120!(With or without your teeth.)

When Morrigan first told me about this instrument, we were also talking about Eb's. I mistakingly thought he was talking about a 2nd hand RC Prestige Eb for AU$2200 and I almost *$%@ myself. I was like "you can't buy it before I try it!"
Anyway, congrats. I'm glad you like it. Sounds nice.
