Hey you all! with your fancy concertos and stuff!!! My main instruments are piano and violin, but I've got what I've always wanted for Christmas- A B Flat Clarinet! what an instument! Wow! It's harder to play than I thought! How do I go from A to B (Haha) I mean A(one finger) to B (all hands on deck) Does everyone struggle with this or is it just me? I would be grateful for a response.

Everyone struggles with this problem.
But everyone gets past this problem.
And I'm sure you'll get past this problem.
Now lets leave the more detailed explanations to the big guys...

Three quick pointers:
1. Don't let your fingers fly. Keep them close to the keys.
2. Rock your LH forefinger up to get the A key; don't pick it up and move it there. That way, you're still in position to cover the tone hole for the B.
3. Most of us would keep at least the LH middle and ring fingers down when playing the A. (Gives you a head start on the B.)
BTW - I don't do fancy concertos, but I do lots of stuff. Stuff is good. Good stuff, that is . . .

Fingers verrrry close to the instrument and I find it helps if I concentrate on keeping my wrists DOWN low. Experiment with the angle of your hand too.

I'm also a beginner and I didn't know it was permissable to have the left middle and ring fingers down when playing A. The fingering charts I have I guess are fairly simplified - can someone point me to some that include these potentially useful variations?
