To me, the RC is a "tubbyer" sounding instrument and I prefer the R13. But really, its what you like best in performance characterists. One is certainly not better (or worse) than the other. I have heard player sound great on both models.

R-13 has focused and dark sound. Bore design is poly-cylindrical. R-13 is very popular in US.
RC has bright and less focused sound. Bore design on the Upper-Joint is Poly-cylindrical and Conical on the Lower-Joint. This design makes this clarinet less resistant than R-13. RC is very popular in Europe.
Both instruments are excellent.

In my experience with both of them, I've always found R13's to generally be alot brighter, but it depends on the player and the setup etc etc. My preference is the RC, if its a good one.

I agree with Mark that they are different, but one is not better than the other. Some people prefer the R-13 and some prefer the RC. I personally like the tone of the R-13 more than the RC and the price difference is the biggest thing. Also, the extra key is a benefit on the RC over the R-13.
